PASSION AND TRADITION TO CONTINUE CREATING OUR BEST OLIVE OIL

The housefarm Cortijo de Santa María at Limones (Granada) dates back to the middle of the 18th century. Juan García Jiménez, who was born in it, acquired the olive groves that surrounded the farmhouse throughout the last century. He devoted his life to livestock and the production of an olive oil made only with traditional methods that were transmitted from generation to generation. Today, his family continues that legacy in the search for green gold of greater purity and flavor.

HISTORY OF THE OLIVE OIL

Olive oil is inherent in the Mediterranean culture with wine and bread. Its cultivation began between 4000 and 3000 BC with use not only culinary but for cosmetics, medicine, lighting and perfumery. The Greeks considered the goddess Palas Athena, known to the Romans as Minerva, the creator of the olive tree, which symbolizes peace, fertility, holiness and glory.

THE LANDS OF LIMONES (GRANADA)

The district of Limones, belonging to the municipality of Moclín, is located in the area of the Eastern Mountains of Granada. Already in Roman times, the village was inhabited. There are still ruins in the near by (Loma de la Era and the Rosalejo). The Spanish-Muslims who conquered the Iberian Peninsula called it Beleymon with the construction of a watchtower dating back to 1488. Its lands produced, in addition to olive oil, cereals, vegetables and some fruit trees.
